Romans 5:6-8 (MSG)

6 Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. 7 We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. 8 But God put his LOVE ON THE LINE for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

How many men and women in uniform have been inspired to sacrifice life and limb to save and support a inspirational cause? How many have been inspired and led into battle for a cause or ideal by their brave and courageous leader? We can understand people dying for FREEDOM or for COUNTRY, right? But to die for someone who is of no use to us or someone who is weak and rebellious, NO WAY!

Yet Christ did not wait for us to be ready or to be “worth” dying for! He died for us while we were yet sinners lost in our own hopelessness and despair. He arrived right on time to pull us up out of the pit we as humans had dug ourselves into.

This, my friends, is true love! Laying down your life for others. Giving up your freedom for the freedoms of others!

But then Christ tells us we must love others the same way He loved us! How are we supposed to do that?

By giving up our rights, desires, and wants for the needs of others!

This is observed when a husband is tired and does not feel like doing anything, but gets up and does the dishes. Or when a child’s friend asks to play with a favorite toy and that child lets the other play with it. This kind of love is present when a person chooses to serve others above theirselves!

So what will YOU do today to spread this kind of love throughout the world! For this is how people will know we are His disciples, if we love one another (John 13:34-35)!
